Because you do not buy anything physical, trading forex can be confusing.
Think about buying a currency like buying a stock in a particular country, a bit like buying shares of a company.
The price of the currency is usually a direct reflection of the market opinion on the current and future health of the respective economy.
In foreign exchange trading, if you buy, say the Japanese yen, you are basically buying a "stake" in the Japanese economy.
They bet that the Japanese economy is going well and will improve over time. Once you sell these "stocks" back on the market, hopefully you will end up with a profit.
In general, the exchange rate of a currency against other currencies is a reflection of the condition of the economy of that country compared to the economies of other countries.
